XZ/Elan/HighIMPACT use 2 slots,
Extreme/MaxIMPACT use 3 slots.

NOTES:
#1: An example number-crunching system, ie. best possible CPU, good RAM with
room for expansion, reasonable disk, but cheapest possible graphics.
#2: R8K systems are not as fast as R10K systems for integer tasks, but are good for
fp tasks and are fascinating to work with. Ideal for compiler fans.
#3: XL24 is good for 2D tasks (much higher 2D fill rate than the non-IMPACT 3D
options), eg. for use with Indigo2Video, CosmoCompress, etc. Also good for
better expansion, eg. dual-head XL24, 10/100, video option, etc.
#4: The R4600SC/133 actually has the same integer performance as the R4400SC/175,
and thus is much faster than an R4400SC/100.
#5: A cheap way to obtain some spares: PSU, R4K motherboard, EISA backplane, etc.

Disk upgrade options are as follows (old disk along the top, new disk
down the side on the left), eg. to upgrade from a 9GB to a 1.6"
7200rpm 36GB is +30, or from an 18GB to a 10k 1" 73GB is +40:

All disks larger than 1GB are SCA with adapter. A 1GB 50pin is valued the
same as an old 7.2k 9GB SCA, so the upgrade cost from 1GB to 9GB (+10) is
+10 for the adapter. All disks larger than 9GB are 10000rpm models by default.

Please see my 2nd-hand Indigo2 Buyers Guide for complete background information on Indigo2.
See the shipping costs page for details of postage charges to the UK, mainland Europe and beyond. A typical cost would be 12.50 UKP for a UK destination (by PF48) and around 25 to 80 UKP for a mainland European destination for a single Indigo2 with peripherals. For destinations beyond Europe, see the shipping costs page for full details.
All systems have some degree of scratching on the top lid, but are always fully intact (no broken catches, etc.) If cosmetics are important though, then I can fit a system with a good condition lid for extra.
All Extreme systems have an Extreme badge, all IMPACT systems have an IMPACT badge, and all R10K systems have a 10000 badge. All teal systems valued more than 100 UKP include teal foot stands for free. All purple systems valued more than 150 UKP include purple foot stands for free.
Unless otherwise stated, all Indigo2s include a normal-type SGI granite keyboard, normal-type granite mouse (colour-faded due to sunlight exposure; add 10 to have a newer-tpye SGI mouse in good condition instead), new/unused blue mouse mat, metal locking bar and power cable. Any 6.2/6.5 system valued at more than 80 UKP also comes with my custom SGI Freeware and Gifts CDs, plus my custom Neko CD split for R8K/R10K systems. See the IRIX CDs page for details of these CDs. Alternatively, I can include a full 6.5.22 CD set for +50, or +45 for non-IMPACT systems (email for details). Monitors and monitor cables are also available - see the monitor section for details.
All systems with at least 128MB RAM and 4GB disk come with a full installation of IRIX 6.5.22m - the last version of IRIX released for Indigo2. My installation includes lots of extras such as Blender, BMRT, Ayam3D, mplayer, OpenOffice, Freeware, Nekoware, Quake, Quake2, etc.) Adobe Premiere 4.2 is installed (IMPACT-only), plus many other items, including a good custom desktop layout. A typical installed software list in Software Manager looks like this. Note that I can install 6.5.22 on a system with only 64MB RAM, but it won't run very well (128MB or more is best). I can install 6.2 or 5.3 if prefered though.
All systems with less than 128MB RAM (or a disk less than 4GB) by default have a good IRIX 6.2 installation; such systems come with the May 2001 Freeware CDs included (the last freeware release which fully supported 6.2) and my May 2001 Gifts CD. Alternatively, I can include a full 6.2 CD set for +30 (email for details).
Lastly, not everyone wants to have the latest OS, or perhaps an earlier version is needed anyway. Thus, if required I can also install older releases such as 6.2, 5.3 with XFS, 5.2, etc. on any configuration that can take it.
GR2-XZ graphics (2 Geometry Engines [GEs] and 1 Raster Engine [RE]) is generally half the speed of Elan graphics, although it can actually be very similar if the bottleneck is pixel fill instead of geometry processing. Elan is half the speed of Extreme, ie. Indigo2 Elan graphics is the same speed as 'Indy XZ', which is also the same as Elan for IRIS Indigo (4 GEs and 1 RE).
Extreme graphics, with 8 GEs and 2 REs, is about the same speed for shaded/wireframe/points tasks (ie. anything non-textured) as an R5000SC/180 O2 and is thus quite good for using animation packages such as Blender. Here is a comparison table:
Lit Gouraud Z
GEs REs MFLOPS (**) Triangles/sec No. Slots Used
^^^ ^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Extreme: 8 2 256 405M 3
Elan: 4 1 128 181M 2
GR2-XZ: 2 1 64 100M 2
(**) Available MFLOPS processing power for accelerating
geometry/lighting calculations (32MFLOPS per GE).
HighIMPACT graphics is the same as SolidIMPACT for non-textured tasks, but it includes hardware texture mapping with either 1MB or 4MB texture memory (TRAM) and so is much faster for textured tasks (typically 20X to 50X faster - the more complicated the scene, the better the speedup compared to software texturing). A 1MB TRAM system is limited to 16bit colour, while a 4MB TRAM system can do 32bit RGBA double-buffered or even 36bit RGB for high quality imaging. IMPACT graphics also supports higher resolutions than the older graphics. There is a rare version of HighIMPACT called HighIMPACT/AA - this has 2 GEs but still 1 RE, but note it is the same speed as ordinary HighIMPACT - the AA version merely used a temporary alternate GE design. HighIMPACT is a good entry choice for playing games such as Quake, Certain IMPACT, Mekton, etc. properly (definitely best with 4MB TRAM), but also offers hardware accelerated 2D imaging and other benefits.
MaxIMPACT is up to twice as fast as HighIMPACT for everything (2 GEs and 2 REs), supports even more resolutions, and also has either 1MB or 4MB TRAM. See the Inventor 3D results for High/Max comparison examples - examine the data for the Underwater Camera, Huge Engine and Chromeskins models. NOTE: these tests only use one texture, mapped onto a whole model (environment mapping). A model which consisted of lots of separate textures mapped in the normal way would show a larger difference between High and Max, and a similarly larger difference between software and hardware texturing.
